Skinification: Why Your Scalp Deserves a Little Skincare Love

Thoughtful care for your scalp. A little extra love for your strands.

By Lenore Williams

Skincare Starts at the Scalp. A little care from roots to ends. Wooden scalp brush, dropper bottle, fresh rosemary and a white towel on a light spa countertop.

We cleanse and moisturize our faces, but how often do we think about the skin beneath our hair?

That’s the idea behind “skinification” of hair care—giving our scalp some of the same thoughtful attention we give our skin. It may sound like a fancy word, but the concept is simple: look beyond how your hair looks today and consider what your scalp and hair actually need.

More Than Shampoo and Conditioner

An October report from Cosmetics Business highlighted growing interest in scalp care and treatment-focused hair routines. People are paying more attention to buildup, dryness and scalp comfort instead of focusing only on styling or repairing damaged-looking hair.

You don’t need a complicated routine to take part. Start by asking yourself: Does my hair feel weighed down? Does my scalp feel dry? Do my ends need more moisture?

Those answers can help you choose products with a purpose.

How Lemongrass Spa Fits In

Lemongrass offers several ways to give your scalp and strands a little extra attention.

Refresh with a scalp scrub.

The Lemongrass Scalp Scrub offers a targeted cleansing step for your scalp. Use it gently and follow the product directions—more scrubbing doesn’t mean better care.

Give dryness some attention.

Rosemary Mint Scalp Oil contains argan, castor, olive and evening primrose oils to help moisturize the scalp and condition hair. It can also be used sparingly on dry ends to help smooth their appearance. Think moisture and conditioning, rather than a promise of new hair growth.

Make cleansing a moment of self-care.

The Scalp Massager can help gently work shampoo, scalp scrub or scalp oil into the scalp. It’s a simple way to slow down and give this often-overlooked area some attention.

My Own Hair Care Approach

I use our Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner with Coconut and Hemp Seed most washes. Every four or five washes, I switch to the Clarifying Shampoo & Conditioner with Rosemary & Mint for a fresh, clean feeling.

That’s what works for me. Your routine may look different depending on your hair texture, styling habits and how your scalp feels.

Thoughtful Care, Simple Choices

Skinification is a useful reminder to choose hair care the way we choose skincare: pay attention to your needs, understand what each product does and use it as directed.

You don’t have to add every treatment to your shower. A few well-chosen products can make your routine feel more intentional—and a little more like self-care.
